The vista here includes alfalfa fields, pivot sprinklers, views of Casper Mountain and the sweep of hills westward toward Emigrant Gap.
This little county park definitely needs some tender loving care. Other budget priorities demand attention…like the new courthouse, the new juvenile detention center, the jail, employee salaries, roads, other high volume parks like Alcova, Pathfinder, Casper Mountain Park, et al. The tax dollar only goes so far. But this place, quite a ways from the hubbub of the city, has potential. New trees have been planted. The picnic shelter and playground equipment no longer stand silently in the tall grasses, waiting to be used. They were removed. Take a few minutes to look about…and listen to nature— the breeze, the birds. While placing the cache, I watched a black and white Lark Bunting flitting about. I heard the familiar song of the Western Meadowlark. In the spring you’ll often see Red-wing Blackbirds and occasionally see the yellow-headed version. A variety of plants were growing and blossoming in all their glory. Purple alfalfa and yellow sweet clover were in bloom in June. Crested wheatgrass was waving in the breeze. And, of course, the ubiquitous cheat grass was everywhere. You may see antelope or mule deer in nearby fields. This western vista includes a few oil related businesses…all part of Casper’s viewshed. As usual, watch out for the little critters as well. Be alert for snakes, ticks, red ants, and the like. The cache is a spiffy ammo can. Enjoy a quiet park on the far western edge of town.
