The Dock of the Bay Traditional Geocache

This cache is temporarily unavailable.

Marko Ramius: I was reviewing caches in the area that appear to need maintenance or have been temporarily disabled for an extended period of time. I see that this one hasn't had a status update from the owner in the past few months. Obviously, we give extra time when a cache must be disabled for reasons beyond the owner's control, but it does help to have periodic updates.

Please post a note to the cache page to let us all know the status: Any plans to replace (now or in the future)? A report that the area is not yet ready for a cache placement? A simple note on the cache page just to let us know that you haven't forgotten about the cache?

Please respond on this cache page within the next 30 days. If we do not hear from you, we may conclude that the cache has been abandoned and the cache may be archived. Please be aware that caches that are archived due to a lack of communication or maintenance may not be unarchived.

Please note that since 2022 when Geocaching HQ declared it to be "The Year of the Hide," greater emphasis has been placed on "refreshing the gameboard" which means that our SoCal volunteer Reviewers will be more aggressively freeing up space for new caches to replace old ones that are not being properly maintained. In this vein, a response on the cache page from the cache owner is required to avoid archival.

Thank you for your understanding.

Geocache Description:

Please screw cap on securely. Just between the Long Beach Convention Center's loading dock and the bay of the Rainbow Lagoon Park is a great place for a stroll with the family, a significant other, or even by yourself. I found myself whistling Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay by Otis Redding. Peaceful Place.

A family/kid friendly cache design I admired by ShamRider called Fishing (GC2NGQ8) that I wanted to share with visitors to the Long Beach area! A fun cache that makes it possible to go fishing here at the lagoon! (SITTIN' ON) THE DOCK OF THE BAY - written by Otis Redding and Steve Cropper - lyrics as recorded by Otis Redding December 7, 1967, just three days before his death in a plane crash outside Madison, Wisconsin - #1 for 4 weeks in 1968 Sittin' in the mornin' sun I'll be sittin' when the evenin' come Watching the ships roll in And then I watch 'em roll away again, yeah I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay Watching the tide roll away Ooo, I'm just sittin' on the dock of the bay Wastin' time I left my home in Georgia Headed for the 'Frisco bay 'Cause I've had nothing to live for And look like nothin's gonna come my way So I'm just gonna sit on the dock of the bay Watching the tide roll away Ooo, I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay Wastin' time Look like nothing's gonna change Everything still remains the same I can't do what ten people tell me to do So I guess I'll remain the same, yes Sittin' here resting my bones And this loneliness won't leave me alone It's two thousand miles I roamed Just to make this dock my home Now, I'm just gonna sit at the dock of the bay Watching the tide roll away Oooo-wee, sittin' on the dock of the bay Wastin' time (whistle)
