Geocache Description:

cammoed pill bottle, please bring your own writin' stick. A small gift for the first to find.

This often missed little park has a lot to share! The Lewis and Clark expedition met local native Americans here November Seventh, 1805. In 1846 James Birnie was the first white settler to move to this area, establishing Birnie’s Retreat. Upon visiting this retreat, Judge William Strong (one of the first three U.S. Supreme Court Justices for the Oregon Territory) fell in love with the area and decided to settle here on a 640 acre Donation Land Claim in 1850.

On display at this park is a retired steam locomotive dubbed “Six Spot” that hauled logs from the surrounding hills for the Crown Zellerbach Corporation, as well as an old gill-net boat and various farm equipment.

This park is well maintained with some beautiful views, with plenty of room for picnicking.

The museum at the park is open from 1pm-4pm Saturdays and Sundays. It is worth taking some time to stop in and learn a little history about the area.

Congrats to angieandkris and TTSM on FTF!!
