Geocache Description:

There is no cache at the given coords, the cache is near the start of the challenge in Horton-In-Ribblesdale.
You have to visit Horton-In-Ribblesdale before tackling any of the Peaks.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks Wherigo Challenge

Visit the summits of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough with the Wherigo Cartridge running at each to unlock access to the Reward Cache.

You can take as much time as you like, make a weekend out of it, or take a few months; but if you want to take the extreme challenge, an additional elite challenge cache will be made available for anyone who completes the Cartridge in under 12 hours.

The Start and End point is the traditional point in Horton in Ribblesdale. Inside you will find the Clocking In Machine as used by those undertaking the traditional Three Peaks Challenge. The virtual version of the machine can be activated from outside, so you can start the Wherigo Challenge without entering the building.

The Reward cache and Challenge Cache are a short walk away from the start, with parking nearby.

Disclaimer:
This Wherigo is not associated with the long-standing "Yorkshire Three Peaks" walking challenge, and completion of the Elite Challenge Cache doesn't automatically qualify you to join the "Three Peaks Club" unless you've met their own criteria.

About Wherigo

Wherigo is no longer just for users with expensive GPS units, or ancient PDAs. Very good Wherigo software now exists for modern handheld devices, such as iPhone or Android smartphones.
All my Cartridges have been tested on Android 2.2 and iOS 4.

Note for Dedicated GPS Users: I have not tested this challenge with a Dedicated Outdoor GPS unit capable of running Wherigo.
Before setting off, try my "play anywhere" test cartridge, which tests the timing functions of the challenge without leaving the comfort of your own home. If that works fine, the rest of the proper Cartridge should work fine, as there is nothing else complicated in there.

Order of Play:

- Visit the Starting Point, examine the Clocking In Machine, the timer starts and you are given your Clock Card which serves as your progress report.
- Save and Close the game, and make your way to your first peak (usually Pen-y-Ghent).
- Open up the Cartridge, when you are registered in the zone near the Trig, that peak is crossed off the list.
- Save and Close again.
- Repeat for the other two peaks.
- Return to the Start and Clock back in to gain access to the cache(s).

At any point you can return to the Start to reset the challenge afresh (say you set out and realise you've left something in the car, you can set the timer to 12 hours again).

I've already done the Three Peaks, can I claim the cache?

No, sorry, for everyone to be on a level playing field, visits utilising this Wherigo cartridge after the publication date are the only way to find the cache(s). If you've no wish to climb the peaks again, there are plenty of easier smilies to be had.
Also, to deter "passing on" of the cache coords, you are encouraged to "unlock" the Cartridge using the Completion code on the wherigo.com listing to show you have completed the cache(s) in the spirit of the challenge.
