Town of Vulcan


The town of Vulcan is a proud member of the Canadian Badlands
Ltd. (this cache may not be located near the community
represented.) Vulcan is a town located midway between the cities of
Calgary and Lethbridge on Highway 23, in the prairies of southern
Alberta The town's economy is mainly tourism and agriculture-based.
Wheat, canola and barley are the main crops grown in the Vulcan
area. The town's name has brought some attention that has helped it
become a tourist attraction. In the Star Trek television and
feature film series it is the name of the homeworld of the Vulcans.
Capitalizing on this coincidence, the town has built a Star
Trek-themed tourist station (the Tourism and Trek Station), which
provides tourist information, displays Star Trek memorabilia,
provides unique photo opportunities, and allows visitors to
participate in The Vulcan Space Adventure virtual reality game.
Nearby, a replica of the starship Enterprise from Star Trek V has
been mounted on a pedestal which includes writing from Trek alien
languages like Klingon.
On April 23, 2010, Leonard Nimoy, who plays the part of Spock,
visited the town to help Vulcan celebrate its new status as, "The
Official Star Trek Capital of Canada.
This cache is part of the Legacy Trail produced by the Canadian
Badlands Geocaching Association for the Best of the Bad Mega
Event.
The Legacy Trail
The Legacy Trail is a collection of geocaches that circles its
way over 100 miles on country roads traversing some of the most
scenic and spectacular landscape in this part of the Canadian
Badlands. A large number of caches in a variety of types, sizes and
difficulty are placed on the Trail. Every town, village and
hamletin the Canadian Badlands has its own cache. Some caches were
named after local historic events and people, as well as
celebrities who grew up in this area. Some caches were sponsored by
geocachers who attended the Best of the Bad Mega Event. The Legacy
Trail was produced by the Canadian Badlands Geocaching Association
for the Best of the Bad Mega Event.
The Canadian Badlands
The Canadian Badlands in Alberta are home to the world's most
extensive dinosaur bone beds, badlands and hoodoos, and a
world-class museum that shelters a 75 million-year-old legacy. The
region is rich in culturally and and a complex and diverse modern
society that is still deeply rooted in the spirit of the
frontier.
