It's time for a fall event and NCMAG has reserved a good spot to
have one! This year's event will be at Lake Julian Park in Skyland,
NC, at Shelter #2. The picnic shelter has been reserved for the day
and it is in close proximity to all of the facilities and amenities
the park has to offer. Speaking of...
There is a lot to do here and Lake Julian is about as
family-friendly as you can get. Of course, a picnic is in order,
but there are various other activities that people of all ages can
participate in. We are located next to the horseshoe pits and the
volleyball court, so there might be some competition involved for
something besides a FTF! There is fishing, boating, a playground
for the small children and plenty more. A link to the site for
Buncombe Co. Parks & Rec is
here.
The picnic will be a "pot luck" style picnic with NCMAG providing
the hot dogs. When you post a "Will Attend" note, please list how
many people will be attending in your party and what you will be
bringing so we don't have too many duplicates. (I also need to know
how many hot dogs to bring. DOH!) If you are traveling from a
distance, please feel free to bring something that won't spoil on
the trip, such as drinks, snacks, etc.
This page will be updated several times between now and the event.
Please remember to put this event on your watchlist so you can
receive updates between now and the event date. We look forward to
seeing you there!
***As a side
note- this will be a rain or shine event. I've seen your logs. You
cache in the snow and crawl around in storm drains and poison ivy!
There's no excuse for missing a picnic under a covered shelter if
it's sprinkling outside :-)
9/18/2011---> "Official Event Schedule"
11:00AM- Sunday morning service
12:00PM- Kayak/canoe race
2:00PM- Lunch
3:00PM- Drawing
For those of us missing church, we'll be having a short worship
service at 11:00AM at the picnic shelter. This is
non-denominational and all are welcome to attend.
For the boat race, there are 4 canoes available for rent at the
park office. A couple of extra kayaks will be brought by other
cachers, so there will be some extra floatation if you want to
participate. There is a $5 launch fee for putting in on the lake
payable at the park office. Otherwise, the event is free for all to
participate.
There are 7 caches to be found during the race and packets will be
handed out with the coordinates for each cache. The first person to
return by 2:30 with the most or all 7 caches found will receive a
special prize! The caches range from a 1/5 to a 5/5 and I'm really
excited to hear about the adventures in finding these caches! A
very special note of gratitude goes out to Dare2Geocache and
Cachn'Zoom for placing these caches and helping to make this an
event to remember!!!
For those folks not participating in the boat race, you can join us
either at the horseshoe pit for some pitching and smack-talking or
on the volleyball court for a friendly game there. There are plenty
of geocaches in the local area to be found and the park has a lot
of stuff for the kids to do.
There will be a prize drawing at 3:00PM after lunch for attendees.
You must be present to win, but it will start at 3:00PM sharp, so
you can set your watch and not miss it.
I think that's all the updates I have. Please look at the list
below to see if there are things we need that haven't been claimed
yet. See you there!
