Geocache Description:

This cache can be found at the lower end of Shelf Hall Park, near an area that was used as a Pitch & Putt course.

If you haven’t already found this cache it can be done as the second on our Shelf Woods & Waterfalls series.

The series consists of 9 caches which make a pleasant walk of approx. 3 miles.
Please bring your own pen/pencil as some of the caches are too small to include them.

There is a car park outside the new Shelf Library and Village Hall. If parking here, take time to look at the Library building, it was built from bails of straw and has a living roof.
A car park is also available down the Bridle Stile, be warned the road surface is uneven

Shelf Hall Park is in what used to be the grounds of the Shelf New Hall built in 1861 for Samuel Bottomley, a woollen manufacturer. It was demolished in 1951 after being used as a prisoner of war camp for Italians during the war. The only part of the building to survive is the stable block, which can be found near the tennis courts.

Although the grounds of the Pitch & Putt course appear to be attended to, I’m not sure that it is in use apart from by a colony of rabbits.

You are looking for a small cliplock box containing Log, pen, pencil & swaps and at the time of placing, 2 TBs.

After finding, exit through the gap in the wall, turn left along the bridleway, you are now on the Calderdale Way, continue to SWW#3 -‘The Stile’
