The Wild Wild West (Waitakere) Traditional Cache
Budokan: First time out here for quite some time. Unfortunately a quick check of this cache site revealed a number of changes since my last visit with the tree this was attached to now lying in the grass and a lot of toi toi growing on the hill. No sign of the cache and now i would like to leave this spot perhaps for someone else to use.

This one will take a bit of effort but it is definitely worth the trip out here. Expect one hour of good walking in total and the return to the car is a punishing uphill slog.
If that doesnt put you off then read on.......
If you have kids and a dog that need to get out into the fresh air then this is your spot. (dogs on leads down to the beach)
Turn off the Piha Road towards Anawhata. There is a winding 9km gravel road but the occasional glimpse of the sea along the way.
Park at the road end and follow the marked path down to the beach which takes about 20min.
You will need to cross a small stream and get wet feet so pick your spot and watch for incoming waves on the high tide as they do sometimes surge upstream for up to 200m. The cache was placed on a wet winters day and in places the stream was only calf high but it may be swollen after days of heavy rain. Use some discretion.
The cache is placed on a high vantage point which is easily accessible by a small path. It is only a bison tube but at the end of the day you are here for the view and total wildness of this place rather than the contents of a cache?
