This cache is located just south of of where the Lockport Drive-in Theatre used to be.
Of course my parents are my main source of information on the drive-in, but I sure wouldn't mind if people could post what they remember or have heard about the drive-in.
My Dad remembers driving his friend Teddy's Massey Pacemaker tractor around in circles while packing the ramps and runways. He says it was July 1st, 1945 and it was the coldest July 1st, he can ever remember as he had to wear a parka. My Dad says he remembers it was wartime and at the grand opening, Mr. Gorenstein, the owner, had a prize draw for the very first TV that would be owned by anyone in the area. My Dad also told me that this drive-in theatre was one of the first ones around. It opened just after the Headlingley drive-in , but before the Northmain Drive-in
My Mom's memories are of living on River Road just east of the drive-in and being 15 years old when her and her brothers came through the field to the drive-in. Along the way they ran into a skunk and all of them were sprayed. She said that when they went in to buy food at the drive-in, they were given free food so that they would leave. She said they were all pretty excited about getting free food. My Mom also remembers filling in one night for her cousin who worked there. She said that when she was selling tickets she accidentally gave an entire ticket away when one half was to be entered in a draw. When the next person came through she gave him the other half of someone else's ticket, the owner saw this and laughed and called her a cheapskate. My Mom still laughs about that.
