Just across the road from the cache are seven properties in a row that were claimed by my relatives, the Loutits and the Truthwaites, in land patents in 1876 and 1877. Members of my large and wonderful family still reside on all seven of those properties.
My Mom grew up in the big grey house across the road. My Gramma still lives there and two of her children live on either side of her.
My Grampa used to work at the locks and was awarded the Governor General's Medal in 1973 after he saved two men from drowning below the dam. My grampa passed away on July 1st, 1977. I still remember clearly the parties at the house, and how my Grampa, his Brother(who lived two properties north), and my Uncles all played every kind of instrument; guitar, piano, fiddle, and accordion. I am pleased to say that the musical abilities have been passed down to many of my cousins and the parties are still as entertaining as when I was a child.
