Step On It!
The cache is one of two (the other being Cracked It! GC2Z4RC) located on this great, relatively short stretch of contour path running between St James Ravine and Bailey’s Kloof along the lower slopes of the east Silvermine mountains above southern Muizenberg with some fine views of the mountains and False Bay along the way. Near the cache location is a nice place for a picnic/rest-break with convenient flat rocks, shady trees and seasonal water – as well as the stunning view of course!
To reach the cache:
1. From the St James Ravine end: Park in the small lay-by on Boyes Drive @ S34 06.950 E18 27.512 and head up the path (past the junction to the left for the start of the Old Mule Path) as it zig-zags up the slope before heading across the ravine and north-east towards the cache location.
2. From the Bailey’s Kloof end: Park in the lay-by on Boyes Drive @ S34 06.753 E18 27.788. Head up the trail to the junction with the contour path @ S34 06.724 E18 27.695 and then turn left (south) to head towards the caches.
The cache, a small camo-taped tablet pot is hidden under the trail.
From the cache you can either return the way you came or continue to the other end and walk approx. 600m along Boyes Drive back to your starting point.
Of course this walk can be incorporated into longer hikes, for example including the Old Mule Path and/or Hilltop Path to make a complete circuit of lower and upper contour paths. See Peter Slingsby’s Silvermine Map for details of available routes and access points.
