Geocache Description:

To prevent damage to the Silo I have located the cache about 30 feet from it. Your cache is in a standard hide.
PERMISSION for this cache has been obtained from the City Zoning Commission Planner.

This cache is located in Lavonia Ga, just off I-85 on Hwy 17. I was placing some caches in my I-85 Exit Interstate Cache Series, and came across this location. Although it is more than the 0.3 miles from the interstate that would qualify it to be in that sereies, I thought this spot was interesting. I hope you do as well.

The OLD SILO is the last remnant of the farmland that used to be here. I spoke with a city zoning commission planner who told me there is a rich farming history in Lavonia. He said you might want to go a few streets over and see the old grain elevators there, although they have fallen into disrepair.
He also told me there used to be a good-sized farm where the old silo is, but it is now all that is left of the farm. A small shopping center has been built here and the silo was preserved, although he said it did not have any particular history other than as an interesting landmark.

You can park next to and walk right up to the brickwork surrounding the silo, and actually see inside the openings on the back side, although they are above head high.
