One of three Caches Celebrating The North Carolina Arboretum's 25th Anniversary!
Please note: USFS regulations dictate that no caches be placed within Bent Creek Experimental Forest. Under special permit, only staff of the NC Arboretum are permitted to hide caches within the Arboretum's boundaries.
The North Carolina Arboretum was established in 1986, and features a 434-acre public garden with over 10 miles of hiking and biking trails. For more information on fees and policies, visit our website at www.ncarboretum.org
This cache is located near the trailhead of the Baker Center end of the Natural Garden Trail.
The pond nearby this cache was designed to capture runoff from the parking lot above rather than allow it to enter storm drains or flow directly into a stream. It also serves as excellent habitat for many species of wildlife, including red-spotted newts, wood frogs (found breeding in February), bull frogs, green frogs and invertebrates including dragonflies, water scorpions and water boatmen.
Young cachers may enjoy checking out Discovery Pack from the front desk of the Baker Center or Education Center (available at no charge for loan) and use the pond net for catching tadpoles and insects. Please return these critters unharmed, and enjoy your stay at Baker Pond!
