I thought that it would be fun to combine the indoors of the library with the outdoors of geocaching. Welcome to my world!
The Dewey Decimal Classification System (DDC) was invented by Melvil Dewey. The DDC categorizes nonfiction books by subject matter into ten main divisions which are then further divided into ten subdivisions. The longer the Dewey number, the more specific the subject matter of the book. The DDC is the most widely used classification system in the world--found in libraries in over 100 countries and translated into over 30 languages.
This is the twelfth in a series of now twelve Dewey puzzles created to honor the cache owners of the Monterey Bay Area. Do we know these people personally? Probably not. However, we have come to know them by their hides--the type, the container, the placement, the difficulty, etc. For example, most cachers would agree that I have a fondness for rotting logs!
Geocaching is a give-and-take activity and we all depend on the time, energy, and creativity of cache owners to keep our sport alive. If you have not yet hidden a cache, please consider doing so. To those of you who have, thank you!
After completing my series of Deweys, I realized that I had neglected a very important piece of our local caching picture: the out-of-town cache owners. Not only have these creative individuals improved and enlivened our local scene, but they have driven miles and miles just to do so. This last Dewey is a tip of the hat to them. May they always find our area worthy of their hides.
In order to solve this puzzle, you do not need to know these cache owners. By simply using their hide titles, determine the correct coordinates for the cache by classifying each subject in the DDC.
