It's a Goose, It's a Plane, It's a Pterodactyl! Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

rocksusan: Well, with winter approaching in a couple of months I doubt that the parks people are going to find a new home for our pterodactyl any time soon. I'm going to go ahead and archive this cache. Hopefully some day our favorite dinosaur will fly again and maybe its new location will be suitable for caching.

Geocache Description:

Hidden in St. Peter's Lakeside 370 Park. Bring a pencil.
Cache is a very small, camouflaged and magnetized plastic container. Log is waterproof paper scroll.
My attempt to make it less visible to muggles. Please rehide it carefully, make sure it is stuck tight and out of sight.

When I visited this park on opening day with my husband and daughter and we saw this "structure", one of them thought it was a goose, and the other thought it was a plane. I'm pretty sure it's a pterodactyl. Anyway, this can be a muggle rich environment, so the hint below is very explicit to facilitate a quick find before you start looking too suspicious. Also to help you along: I'm 5' 5" and I can reach the cache standing on the "ledge". Please don't climb on the "structure".... that will get us in trouble for sure.

Please replace the cache so the next person can retrieve it. Don't worry, nobody can see it where it is.

This awesome park is still a work in progress, but there are already some great features. You can rent a variety of small boats, you can fish, and you can camp (RV or tent). When viewed from lakeside, the 3 miles of trails on top of the levee don't look like much, but you'll get a pleasant surprise when you get up there. The views of wetlands are spectacular and there's all kinds of wildlife. I've already seen dozens of goldfinches at a time, indigo buntings, deer, muskrats and a beaver. There's not much shade anywhere yet, so you might not want to go during a hot day (on the other hand, there won't be many muggles around).

I'm hoping some day the pavilions are built and we can have a picnic here!

Another fun fact about this park: There is a crocodile on the island just out from the "marina". It also used to be outside the Cultural Arts building and the famous Bruce S hid a small cache inside the croc's mouth. This of course was long ago in the olden days of geocaching before we got smarter about getting permission to hide caches.

This cache was placed with permission of the parks people and the rangers. The rangers want me to tell you all that the park is open from sunrise to sunset. They take this very seriously and there are big $$ fines if they catch you after dark.
