Geocache Description:

This cache is placed at the location of the Frailey Mountain lookout. Although the fire lookout tower has long since been removed there is currently a tower in the same location that serves a slightly different purpose. If you enjoy hiking and are looking for something with a little challenge to it then this cache just might fit the picture. I started hiking at the posted coordinates, there is most likely a closer place to start from but this was close to my homestead. Round trip my GPSr logged just over 21 miles. Not a hike for the faint of heart. I must warn you that I tried to first access this area from Deer Creek Rd. but after about three miles of rather difficult terrain I was faced with posted private property (that sucked). Unwilling to give up on such a great cache location I went home and did a little map work and came up with a different way to the location that does not cross private property. The trail in is maintained logging roads until the last 3.5 miles where the road has been decommissioned and overgrown with trees and brush. That section has been roughly maintained by someone and has a very gradual incline but is not the easiest trail to follow. If you have any questions about the route I took from start to finish please e-mail me and I will give you the route information that I have. At the cache sight I could not help but think Shel Silverstiens’ book Where the Sidewalk Ends, you will understand when you get there. The cache is a 50 cal ammo can with general swag in it, should be a fairly easy find but please re-hide just as well so that maintenance crews won’t find it. Enjoy the views, bring a lunch and a friend to share the experience with.
Happy Hunting
