Geocache Description:

The cashe is a clip top small green box which contains a log book and children’s item’s, it can be reached by a short walk from the Basingstoke Canal Visitor Centre or Frimley Lodge Park

This is our first cache and hope it will give pleasure to many children and adults even if it is only a place for them to have a rest after a lovely walk along the Basingstoke canal.

Who was Megan? Well Megan was our grand daughter who was born asleep on 11/07/2009 at 37weeks
She was our daughter’s first baby and the heart break her death caused at the time was unbearable
Instead of happiness there was tears for all the family as it was so unexpected and unaccountable.
They say that something good always comes from something bad and in this instance I think that my daughter has discovered her true friends and made new friends.
So the bench is a place to remember Megan and to give people a lovely place to sit and relax.

The Basingstoke Canal can be found in Southern England between the village of Greywell in Hampshire and Woodham in Surrey. It was built between 1788 and 1794 and is 32 miles long with 29 locks. After many years of restoration it's now fully navigable, and connects to the River Wey Navigation, which in turn joins the River Thames. Approximately half of the canal is owned by Hampshire County Council and the other half by Surrey County Council. The "Basingstoke Canal Authority" (part of Hampshire County Council's "Countryside Service") undertake the management of the whole canal. Their offices and visitor centre are located at the Canal Centre, Mytchett Place Road, Mytchett, Surrey. GU16 6DD Telephone - 01252 370073
The visitors centre offers boats trips, boat hire and a cafe and of course more information about the Basingstoke Canal
( there is free parking but it can be very busy at week –ends)

Or from Frimley Lodge Park which is a popular large park with activities for all age groups and as lots of parking available
Frimley Lodge Park is a mixed activity park, popular with all age groups. Its 60 acres includes a cafeteria, pitch 'n' putt and a miniature railway The Basingstoke canal runs along the eastern boundary. The park is open every day, all year round from about 9.30a.m. - closing at dusk, and has three car parks.

Please replace the cache exactly as you find it, securely closed and make sure it is not visible from the nearby path as this is a very popular place to walk, exercise your dog or ride a bike so it can be quite busy at the week-end, or holidays.

Stealth may be required.

Our hope is that many children will enjoy Megan’s Place for years to come.
