Le musée fut fondé en 1988 en réponse au désir des gens qui
demandaient un endroit pour préserver leurs artefacts. Le premier
bâtiment fut une chapelle en souvenir de celle construite en 1788
près de la côte. Ensuite le musée a acquis et rénové une
école(1880), une grange (1890) et un phare(1912). Ces bâtiments
patrimoniaux lui permettent de préserver et exposer les artefacts
de nos pionniers. Les pionniers étaient des Acadiens et des
Acadiennes qui, 20 ans après la période du Grand Dérangement de
1755, cherchaient encore des terres pour s’installer.
Dépourvus de tout, ces gens ont dû inventer et fabriquer outils,
bâtiments et meubles, cultiver et conserver les produits de la
terre et faire tous les métiers - ces Acadiens étaient ingénieux.
En plus, ils ont enseigné ces métiers à leurs enfants et à leurs
petits-enfants afin d’assurer la relève. Leur vie quotidienne
était dominée par la religion et les activités religieuses, sans
négliger l’éducation de base des enfants que leur
fournissaient les petites écoles de chaque coin de la
paroisse!
Vivants à l’époque ou le transport et le gros travail de la
ferme se faisaient par cheval, ces gens avaient un respect
grandiose pour le cheval, cet animal qui leur avait été si
nécessaire.

The museum was founded in 1988 to preserve artefacts. The first
building was a a chapel made in souvenir of the chapel built here
in 1788. Then the museum acquired and renovated a school(1880), a
barn(1890) and a lighthouse(1912). These heritage buildings now
shelter artefacts, once, used by the pioneers. The pioneers were
the Acadians who, 20 years after the dispersion of 1755 were still
searching for land and a place to stay.
Lacking everything, they had to make tools, buildings and
furniture, cultivate and preserve the fruits of the land, know all
the trades; they were ingeneous. Moreover, they showed the trades
to their children and grand children as a way to survival. Although
the ancestors favored basic education provided by the village
schools, for their children, it was remarkable to see how religious
activities were dominant in their everyday lives.
Living at a time when travel and hard work was done by horse, it
was not surprising but apalling to see how, for them, the horse was
regarded as a respected animal.
