2013-06-21 update
A billboard visible from I-94 and I-75 freeway interchange stands in front of the old Fisher Body plant at Piquette, between Harper and the I-94/I-75 Interchange. For many years, it's been a Detroit Landmark and also an advertisement for a tire company that supplied tires for the automotive industry.
The Sign as it looked in 1969 (large diamond-shape)
Below the main advertisement on the sign was an electronic counter that kept a tally of the "US Car & Truck Production" in a real-time mode digital readout and was a sight to behold. It also reminded us of the productivity of local industry and what this meant to the local economy.
The Sign as it looked in 2001
In 2002, the company ended funding for the billboard and electronic counter and would remove it's advertising later that year, allowing for the billboard to be used for other advertising such as local casinos or other business. The 'electronic' portion of the sign was still in-use as of the late-2000's.
As of today, that electronic portion of the sign has been removed.

The Sign as it looked in Recent Years with the digital readout still installed.
The sign has had a few other advertising messages since then, for casino's and other various things, but many people that passed-by the intersection of I-94 & I-75 will remember this billboard for the ever rising numbers that used to light up the Detroit Skyline from this spot.
Please replace this as-found and as always, enjoy the hunt.
