Bearii Bound - the turnoff Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

E_Zii: Well I am now archiving this Geocache, as I am unable to continue maintaining it. I hope that someone else decides to replace the Geocaches in this really interesting district, to continue drawing people down here.

Farewell Bearii, it was a great 17 years, but life takes me in a different direction now and I must see where it the journey takes me.

Happy caching!

Geocache Description:

Bearii Bound - the turnoff Geocache provides a convenient stop on the way along the Murray Valley Highway. The Cache also is part of a local series of Geocaches, which are only a few minutes off the Murray Valley Highway and make a nice break in your drive.

First things first: the cache container is a camoflagued medium sized sistema, hidden out of sight, so please make sure you rehide it discretely. There is plenty of room to park well off the Highway, but you will need to keep a close check on any geokiddies or geobeasts. Also keep an eye out for muggle traffic when retrieving the container, it can come from 4 directions very quickly! Please make sure you log any Travel Bugs and Geocoins that you pick up or drop off.

So, where is Bearii and how do you pronounce it? The quiet hamlet of Bearii is located approx 250 kms north of Melbourne; a pleasant 2.5hour drive.the township has the advantage of the picturesque Murray River close by for fishing, swimming, camping and boating activities. Bearii is an interesting community, surrounded by farmland, bushland (the Barmah forest along the River Murray) and populated with an interesing mix of people, many coming to the area for a "Tree Change". Bearii is central to the towns of Cobram, in the east, Nathalia in the west, Numurkah in the south and Tocumwal(NSW) in the north - all being approx 30 minutes away. Further afield are the cities of Shepparton, Yarrawonga, Echuca and Denniliquin, all taking around 45-60minutes travel by car.

Bearii is pronounced "Beer aye", so that should be easy to remember!

Bearii is a surprising little place; you can find enterprising locals selling a range of things from organic produce, honey, nuts, ice, yabbies and massages. You can find nice little B&Bs in the area, a caravan park, you can go on an awesome horse ride through the Barmah Forest with a real character called "Padge" (you'll see signs pointing to his unique establishment as you drive down the Murray Valley Highway)and you can even see a strawbale house if you are observant. There is a nice little park a few short minutes down the road, with another Geocache - "Bearii Oasis" which is a good rest stop, with public toilets, picnic tables and a bit of peace and quiet!

Be mindful of snakes, especially now that we have the warmer weather back upon us!
