Frog and Toad Traditional Cache
VerrueckteFrau: It's gone. Sorry for the delay in archiving it. I had actually checked a long time ago and verified that it was gone, but then completely forgot to do the actual archiving...

Family-friendly cache located in a place where our son loves to catch frogs and toads, at beautiful Bennan Lake, along the Ge-Che Ski/Hiking Trail.
To open, disconnect container from the lid. Leave the lid where it is!
Hiking and skiing the Ge-Che trail has long been one our favorite activities in the area.
The trail consists of several connected loops, totaling more than 9 miles of hiking through the beautiful north woods. The trail is easy to moderate, mostly small hills with some flat stretches.
In July our son, SillyMoose, loves catching toads along the trail, and tadpoles and frogs in Bennan Lake.
In the winter, the nearby Covenant Point Bible Camp grooms the trail very well as a great X/C ski trail. If you like X/C skiing, definitely explore the Hagerman Lake end of the trail, with Logger's Loop, in addition to the area that this cache will lead you to. Ski trail parking is available at Covenant Point as well as Lake Ottawa.
To reach the cache site, park at the Lake Ottwa recreation area (located on Ottawa Lake Rd off Hwy 73). A camp ground, bathrooms, a fishing pier, a (somewhat run-down) playground and a sandy beach can be found here.
Follow the light blue diamond trail markers through the Bennan Lake Loop. Trail maps are posted at each intersection. We personally like to go counterclockwise. It's a good 3 mile round trip from the parking lot at Lake Ottawa to the cache and back, following the loop.
If you're skiing, you'll also avoid going downhill at the steepest spot by going counterclockwise - but do be prepared for some nice ups and downs along the trail.
In the summer, bring bug spray, lots of bug spray...
The trail maps show a "rest area" at Bennan Lake - well, that's long gone, now there isn't even a bench there anymore. But it is still a beautiful spot that is well worth the hike! There are very few houses along the lake, it's a spot for peace and quiet, And for catching frogs ;-)
Turn off the main trail at N 46 04.640 W 88 44.566 for the access to Bennan Lake.
Usually there is a rocky beach there, with several logs to sit on and rest. This summer has been a bit wet, so the water level is higher than usual and the beach completely submerged.
Look out for raspberries near the water filtration plant near the beginning of your hike, and for blueberries right by Bennan Lake.
This cache was named in honor of the "Frog and Toad are Friends" books that our son likes to read to us.
Please do not completely remove the container from its place. Just disconnect the main container from the lid and leave the lid where it is!
The cache is winter-friendly.
We left a travel bug here, please move him on as quickly as possible.
