Geocache Description:

Gryttjen är en insjö på gränsen mellan Hudiksvalls och Ljusdals kommuner i Hälsingland, 136 meter över havet. Sjön ligger mellan Hudiksvall och Ljusdal nära riksväg 84. Sjön avvattnas västerut genom Hyboån till Hybosjön och Ljusnan.

Från mitten av 1800-talet och framåt har det vid upprepade tillfällen rapporterats in iakttagelser av olika mystiska slag. Observationer av vad som tros vara ett sjöodjur, har gjorts vid sjön. Sjöodjuret har fått namnet Gryttie. Omkring år 1985 bildades Gryttie-gruppen som vid flera tillfällen har sökt igenom sjön med undervattenskameror och sonar. Inga bekräftade bevis har dock framkommit. Under senare år har man förklarat fenomenet med att det skulle vara frågan om ett ”kallvattensisolat inom sirén-familjen”; en typ av sjöko, som bor i sjön.

Cachen är placerad i närheten av Dellenbanan. Den passar bra att ta under en dressintur mellan Delsbo och Hybo. Dellenbanans elektrifierade tågtrafik är numera nedlagd.

Gryttie is a mythical creature which is reputed to dwell in the depths of Gryttjen, in Hälsingland, Sweden. Gryttjen Lake is located fairly deep in the forest between the towns of Ljusdal and Hudiksvall. Gryttie is a local legend in the province of Hälsingland and unconfirmed sightings has been made at the lake since the 1800's but none were fully documented. The lake is stated to have a depth of about 118 feet but local attempts with sounding lines have found deep holes measuring over 300 feet down. The rumours of the lake monster was that it was some kind of sea serpent. However in 1985 a group calling themselves the Gryttie-group was formed and started to make more systematic examinations of the lake including underwater cameras and side sonar scanning. Their current theory today is that it is not a monster but actually some form of isolate of a seacow that lives in the lake but no conclusive evidence has been discovered of neither the existence of the monster nor of any animals that can explain the sightings.

The cache is placed nearby the Dellen-railway which is only used for railway trolley rides nowadays. There are trolleys for rent at Delsbo railway station.
