Denne cache er lagt ud for at vise Rødvigs flotte vartegn.

This cache is placed to show Rødvigs great landmark.(English version beneath)



Denne cache ligger ved Rødvigs vartegn som den gamle flintovn kaldes i daglig tale. Cachen ligger på et skønt udsigtspunkt med udsigt til Stevns klint, strand og havn, samt Møn på den anden side af vandet.

Rødvig Flintovn er en 3,5 m høj kvadratisk bygning med 5 m høj skorsten
muret ovenpå. Den er indrettet med 3 rum over hinanden til lokalmuseum el.lign. samt en udsigtsplatform.

Lidt om flintovn's Historie.

En foretagsom skipper, Rasmus Larsen, fik i 1870 den idé at opføre en flinteovn i Rødvig Havn.

Han havde set, hvordan man importerede flintmel fra Frankrig, og han mente at det der kunne fremstilles af den stevnske flint fra klinten måtte være lige så godt til formålet, der var, at det skulle bruges til glasur på de smukke fajancevarer, som fabrikken Aluminia på Christianshavn i København fremstillede.

Planen lykkedes, og der blev fremstillet flintmel både af Rasmus Larsen og af hans søn, Lars Peter Larsen, helt frem til 1910.
Mens flintovnen fungerede, var der beskæftiget ca. 15 - 20 mand med at hente flint, passe ovnen og fragte flinten til København.

Flintovnen som nu er blevet opført for 3. gang, står i dag som et vartegn for Rødvig.

The cache is located on a beautiful vantage point overlooking the Stevns cliff, beach and port, and Moen on the other side of the water.

Rødvig Flintoven is a 3.5 m tall square building with 5 m high chimney
brick on top. It is furnished with three rooms above the other local museum and a viewing platform.

A little about flintoven's history:

An enterprising skipper, Rasmus Larsen, was in 1870 the idea to build a flintoven in Rødvig Harbour.

He had seen how grinded flint was imported from France, and he thought that it could be made from the Stevns flint from the Cliff, may be just as well for the purpose. It was used for icing on the beautiful earthenware, that the factory Aluminia Christianshavn in Copenhagen produced.

The plan succeeded, and that was made grinded and melted flint by both of Rasmus Larsen and his son, Lars Peter Larsen, right up to the 1910th.
While the flintoven work, it employed about 15-20 man retrieving flint, managing the oven and carrieng flint to Copenhagen.

The flint oven which has now been rebuild for the third time, stands today as a landmark for Rødvig.
