This is a Micro, so you will need a pen. Cache at your own risk, and watch for muggles. Place the container back exactly how you found it please. There is a parking lot near by that you can park at.
This geocache is in tribute of the former West Junior High School, which I attended prior to it's closing. I am limited on the info & photos that I could find. So I would love to see any photos you have and hear any stories.
The West Jr High Black & Gold Pumas were part of the Ashtabula High & Harbor High's consolidation. The High School's announced in 2001 that they were consolidating, and Lakeside High School began in 2002. West Jr High consolidated with their rivals, Columbus Jr High in 2006, and became Lakeside Jr High. The schools moved to the old Ashtabula High School building prior to the new Junior High being built. The school was eventually torn down in 2008, at which there are videos of on youtube.I believe that the locker rooms are still underground and were just covered with soil, but I can not verify that at this time.
The Junior High held 7th & 8th grades. The field next to the school, named Guarnieri Field, or Bula Field, was home of the Ashtabula Panthers. I was part of the marching band and spend many days at this field. After the school was torn down, the grandstands, field house & concession stand stood for a while, and were also recently torn down. If you look them up on bing maps, you can still see the grandstands, field house & concession stands. If you look on google depending on the version, you may be able to still see the school also.
It is good to see the children get new schools, though it is sad to see our old schools torn down. I hope to see everyone's photos & hear their memories...
