Please note that the
final cache is hidden inside Dereham Library, see 'final' way point
below, the co-ords will take you to the parking, were you will need
to start in order to answer the clues and find the caches' exact
location.
Kind thanks go to the Management Team at Dereham Library for their
permission and help in placing the cache.
The above co-ordinates are for Dereham Library. However, you must
first answer the clues to identify the exact location.
Clue answers are available at anytime, but the cache is only
available during library opening hours:
Monday 9.15am - 5.00pm Tuesday 9.15am - 7.00pm Wednesday 9.15am -
5.00pm Thursday 9.15am - 5.00pm Friday 9.15am - 7.00pm Saturday
9.15am - 4.00pm
The cache can be easily accessed from public transport, buses to/
from the market place, or there is plenty of free parking near the
library. We have suggested using the Cherry Tree car park (also
free) at the cache coordinates, as this will then lead you through
the market place, and past the clue’s, onto the library
itself.
Do take time whilst in Dereham to visit our famous sights –
St Withburga’s Well & Bishop Bonners Cottage, as well as
perhaps enjoying the market on Tuesdays or Fridays. More
information about Dereham’s History can be found on a tourist
information board in the centre of the market place.
You need to be in the market place to find these answers – I
though it would be nice to show people more of Dereham than just
the library, which sits at the bottom of the High Street, welcoming
you into town!
To locate the exact cache location, answer the following
questions:
As you walk from the suggested parking area south towards the
market place, find off on your right a stone flower trough:
Using the second line of text, R= 4th letter, O=15th letter,
K=16th, N=19th Third line reads ###$
Head further over to your right and admire the hanging baskets
outside the Citizens Advice Bureau.
Using the second line of text, C= last letter of first word. Using
the third line of text, P=5th letter, Q=7th, A=14th letter.
Walk further south.
The leather goods shop was established in ###~
You need to know who opened the Dereham Traffic Management Scheme
(You lucky things! It doesn’t work by the way…) I only
found this last week, should really look at my surroundings
more!
First line third word, last letter =B Second line, E=3rd Letter
Third line, I=9th letter, E=11th letter, L=13th letter, M=15th
letter 11th character from the end = %
Now find the clock donated by the Rotary Club.
Fifth line of the plaque, third word = #GD#H Ninth line, 3rd
Character = £
Outside the Congregational church, find the small rectangular
plaque:
Second line, first letter = J Third line, first letter =F Third
character from the end = @
Phew! Now all you need to do is work it out as you walk under the
town sign and down to the library.
This road is remarkable in that, given the huge number of plaques
in the market place, there isn’t a single one! You’d
have thought at sometime in Dereham’s long history someone
would have thought ‘one day a cacher might need a clue of
two, I’ll commemorate this building just in
case’…
So, the cache can be found at:
AB CDE’F GAHI JD GAKLIM AMKLINF DB OINF JPIM %£$.@~£ AK LPI
MEQRIO CDE MIIF
You might get some coins in this cache, but not such else. Clue is
a complete spoiler, so don’t use unless you have too.
This cache meets the GAGB Urban Placement Guidelines.
