Geocache Description:

The story of the area that is now known as Adair Village. Thanks to V-Star Rider for sharing the exact local of the launch pad area. Check out his cache Rockets Red Glare noted later in this cache description.

This part of Camp Adair has gone through more changes than the remainder of Camp Adair. In the beginning the area was known as Wells Oregon,
but with the start of World War II the U.S.Army looked for a training area that was as close to the terrain and weather aspects as that of Germany. The Mid Willamette fit that bill with it's rolling hills and valley floor crisscrossed with rivers, streams, and spots of forests. So in 1942 the government grabbed over 50,000 acres of the area for troop training. The town of Wells no longer existed, Camp Adair came into being, and before all was said and done, over 100,000 troops were trained here and sent to war in 1944.
After the troops left, the area was transformed to both a 3600 bed hospital to serve the injured from the Pacific Theater and was ran by the U.S.Navy. At the same time it also served as a prisoner of war camp for German and Italian P.O.W.'s. After the war ended and all the prisoners were returned to their countries in 1946, the area became quiet. Then came 1957. In 1957 the area was then handed over to the Air Force to become a S.A.G.E. control facility
and Missile Station for the C.I.M.-10 Surface to Air missile.
It was slated to get 28 CIM-10 missiles, but with drastic cuts to the Bomarc program, only the S.A.G.E. building was completed before Adair was cut from the program. The pads for the missiles were only 50 % completed and one of the pads actually has 2 caches at it. One is Rockets Red Glare and the second one is Bunker Down

After the S.A.G.E. facility was taken offline, the Adair Air Force Station was closed and was deemed as Surplus and was sold into private hands. Today it is now Adair Village. The large concrete building was the S.A.G.E. control facility,
and many of the buildings to the east of it was the buildings made to house, feed, and train the Airmen stationed here.
Many of the old buildings are now a Christian school and the rest are owned by many different companies. Please replace as found so that the many muggles that live in the area won't find it.
