Geocache Description:

The Green County Barn Quilts project started in 2008, and by the end of 2010 the 100th barn quilt was installed. Barn quilts are painted wooden squares (designed like one block of a real quilt pattern), generally 8 x 8 feet in size. Some are located on "working" barns, and others are displayed on "retired" barns. It's not as challenging as geocaching, but hunting for the barn quilt locations is a true adventure in experiencing the roads less traveled of the Green County countryside.

Craig and Sharon Ackerman purchased this farm in 1988 - the year of one of the worst local droughts. Local Argyle builder Clarence Watkins built this barn in 1947 after an electrical fire destroyed the previous barn. The springhouse (milk house) is a miniature duplication of the barn. The barn was used as a milking barn until 1998 when the dairy cows were replaced by beef cattle. Today the barn is used only for hay storage. The Ackerman's selected the pattern "Turkey Tracks" in honor of the wild turkeys that are seen often in flocks on the surrounding farm fields.
