Flood Museum Traditional Cache
lourenssoek: We have been requested to archive this cache as most cannot find it. We do not live close to the cache but visit it a few times in the year to maintain so will have a look at next visit whether it is still there as many did not find it although it is in plain view

This cache is placed in memory of the 1981 Flood and the 30 year Flood Festival which was held in January 2011 in Laingsburg.
Note the 'Water meter sculpture' a few meters away. These meters were removed from the present day Golf course, where a large part of the neigbourhood were destroyed during the Flood. Also note the blue boat at the entrance to the Information Center from the N1, this boat was donated to the Town of Laingsburg during the 2011 30 year Flood Festival from the Department of Water Affairs. This boat was used to rescue people from the waters of the 1981 Flood.
If you have time, visit the Museum for more on the 1981 disaster, play a game of open air snakes & ladders with the kids in the new play-ground nearby, look at the hand crafted items (some from items/ materials salvaged from the Buffels river after the Flood of 1981) or seek out local cuisine and handcrafts nearby.
The cache is a small magnetized plastic container with log. Please bring own pen. Beware of MUGGLES, the locals are curious creatures! The first cache placed nearby was muggled before we could log. Remove only when there are no eyes arround, the smaller residents are known to 'investigate'!
