The Texas Spirit Quest
is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have ‘walked’ before us.
There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural communities across Texas. This series will introduce you to many of them. The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries, tombstones and local lore.
Your standard rural cemetery for German settlers and their descendants. A marker from the THC says this site was established in 1885, although the earliest burial noted by one online source took place in 1896. The site remains active today, or at least as recently as 2006. There are roughly 90 interments here.
Park by the gate, and exercise caution when pulling back out, as there is a sharp curve in the road nearby that can obscure the line of sight. And as always--any refinements to the listed coordinates are welcomed.
UPDATE: Visited again on 01/01/12 for cache maintenance. Site remains in excellent condition, and in fact it appears some improvements have been made--some row markers, for instance, may have been installed. Grounds are in great shape. On a side note, pictures have been added to this web page--see the image gallery .
