Merak is the star in the lower right corner of the bowl of the Big Dipper. It is called one of the pointer stars in the Big Dipper because a line extended from Merak through Dubhe points in the direction of Polaris, the north star It is of average brightness for the stars in the group, but can be distinguished by its proximity to us. At 79 light years away, it is only one 6,000,000,000,000 miles farther away than the closest star, Mizar.
Many people love constellations, others love good walks in the woods, while some just love to collect smileys! If you love all three, then this is the geocache series for you.
To find the “Polaris Bonus Geocache” you will need to find all of the other caches in the series and obtain a clue from each one. When you have visited the seven stars of the Big Dipper you will be able to determine the location of the “Polaris Bonus Geocache.”
I would recommend visiting the caches in this order.
Alkaid, Mizar, Alioth, Megrez, Phecda, Merak, Dubhe, Polaris Bonus Geocache
I WOULD RECOMMEND TAKING THE SPRAGUE BROOK PARK TRAIL FROM THIS CACHE TO DUBHE.
