Having lived very near here for many years and having a very personal association with Kamo Primary School this seemed a great place to hide a wee cache - cache is very small - log only - please rehide well as this place could have very high muggle activity - especially around school hours.
Plenty of parking off road in carpark at GZ
These oak trees were planted in August 1892 when NZ celebrated Arbor Day for the first time.
They were raised from seedlings at a school of forestry at Maunu and they were planted on the boundary of the Kamo School by two pupils - Thomas Griffen of Totara Park, Kamo and Walter Wakelin of Whau Valley and a teacher, Miss AC Tristram.
In June 1938 the school committee decided the trees needed pruning to spouting level because of contamination to the water supply. This became the centre of a storm of controversy between the school committee and the Kamo Town Board who believed the school was wanting to cut them down - in the end they were not touched.
They still stand proudly alongside the Kamo War Memorial Hall.
