We all like a good brain teaser to keep the cogs turning don't
we? This is the first cache in our second puzzle series for
everyone. No puzzling over the puzzle, specialist knowledge or
researching answers on the internet.....just a little bit of brain
power, some logic and a pencil (and just maybe a rubber) are all
that are required to solve them. Throughout the series, you will
find a variety of puzzles to suit all tastes.
This series is different to the first in that it will consist of
locations worthy of a visit in their own right and do not form part
of a longer series of related caches. Other caches/locations will
be added 'as and when'. We 'discovered' this location just a few
days ago and certainly would encourage people to seek it out.
KING GEORGE V POOL
An artificial pool constructed in late 1910-1911 to celebrate
the coronation of King George V. It was given to the people of
Altrincham by Lord Stamford in 1938 in memory of the King's
reign.

The pool is approximately 150m long with an area of 2.5 acres
and is fed from and discharges into Timperley Brook. A footpath
runs around the pool and the area is landscapped with a mix of
ornamental and native trees and shrubs, The site is currently a
very good fishery and regularly used by anglers (so stealth
required) with species of carp, roach, bream and perch. A sign says
that it is open 7.30am until dusk and the fishing season is closed
from beginning of April until mid May. At the ceremony, Lord
Stamford told the people that "it is always a quiet and pleasant
place".
Solve this puzzle as you would a crossword puzzle, using
interlocking numbers instead of words. Write a single digit in each
box so that the sum of the digits equals the total given for that
row or column in the Across and Down clues. For example, the sum of
the digits in the 1-Across boxes must total 18. No number is used
more than once in any answer and zero is not used. Some correct
digits are already entered to start you off.

Some of the boxes have been shaded and include a letter. Once
you have found the correct number for that box, the number will
equate to the value of that letter in the coordinates.
The 1st stage container can then be found at
N 53 23. 2 A B
W 002 20. 2 C D
You can check your answers for this puzzle on
Geochecker.com.
This is a lovely spot to sit and enjoy the view and tranquility.
This Stage is not loggable; it is a plastic container holding
coordinates to the 2nd Stage and some swaps as the final is a
micro. From here you should be able to find the 2nd stage which
holds coordinates only to the Final, loggable cache.
Please ensure that all containers are well sealed and
camouflaged when you replace them. Thanks.
There are several places to park as you will see if you map the
coordinates. The listed coordinates are for the Hare & Hounds
pub. If you would like a longer but very pleasant walk, it is
advisable to park here, walk across the road, join the Public
Footpath which takes you through the Golf Course and some lovely
paths leading to the pool. That's how we found it!
