Mettle hill
You are looking for a small black cylinder.
This hill is believed to the original meeting place for the `Armingford Hundred`originaly known as Motlowehyll A hundred was the ancient version of a district council
This covered 14 local villages.
More recently it was the location for the bomb stores for RAF Bassingbourn and on the top of the hill was a wireless and radar station.Little is left now,the bend at the bottom of the hill was known locally as `Black Barns` due to the 2 buildings which I believe to be left from WW2.These are now gone ,but at the top of the hill the railings from the wireless station still stand.
