Geocache Description:

A musical puzzle gives you the starting point for this night cache. The trail is short and almost flat, but some areas are rough and overgrown.

The puzzle coordinates are at the Dunedin Town Hall, a place where people often go at night to enjoy music. But if you're not attending the symphony orchestra tonight, we invite you to play a little night music with us.

We have had some staff problems, so if you are planning on atttending it might be worth emailing us so that we can check beforehand and ensure the hall is adequately staffed...

The venue is included in the programme below:

A Little Night Music

Symphony in D, No. 7 (1768)
Canon in F for 3 voices (the second opus of that name from 1786)
Kyrie in D minor (1771/1772) & Minuet in F for Keyboard (May 1762)

- Intermission -

Quartet in C for Strings (1773)
Gavotte in B-flat major (1778)
Sonata in F for Violin and Keyboard (1766)

To avoid any possible confusion, please note that the orchestra is playing the original scores as published by Ludwig (1862).

Time: Between Dusk and Dawn any night of the year

Dress: Black tie or formal gown optional
          Sturdy footwear recommended
          Bright torch essential

When you arrive at the venue, a short trail of firetacks will usher you to the concert chamber.
Stand in the main foyer, beside the large metal donation box. Shine your torch down the small side hallway to find the first white firetack.

NOTE: The venue owners have a pest control programme underway. The venue is still open and safe to enter, despite the warning signs. Obviously, do not touch the traps and bait stations you pass.

Choose a dry, calm evening - there are holes in the roof, so it will be difficult to find the trail in wind or rain.
Holding your torch at eye level gives the best results.

A double yellow firetack indicates a change of direction.
Important: At the first double yellow firetack, a decoy trail of white firetacks continues straight on down the hallway to mislead gatecrashers. Since you are invited guests, we remind you to stop at the first double yellow firetack and look for the small corridor at right angles to the main trail. There is a deliberate gap in the firetack trail here. You will have to go ten steps down this side corridor, around the first bend, before you see the next white firetack ushering you onward.

From here on you will be led through back rooms; these can get a little cluttered at times. Please be careful not to trip over on the uneven floor or bump into the old furniture lying around.

The entrance to the concert chamber is marked by twin pillars with two double yellow firetacks. Our ushers will leave you there. If you are unsure of your seat number, please ask for assistance at the information booth located adjacent to the pillars.

We do hope you enjoy your evening's entertainment. Please ensure that you replace the equipment as you found it, and avoid publishing trade secrets in your diary.

To exit the concert chambers you can either follow the firetack trail back, or else go directly downhill until you emerge on the main highway.
