Geocache Description:

This is an easy hide along the new Chesapeake Beach Rail Trail Boardwalk. There is plenty of parking available at the Chesapeake Beach Water Park & Kellam's Field. Please no night caching! You can start your journey at N 38 41.459 W 076 32.272.

You will be looking for a 35 mm film canister. You are seeking a film canister. This rail trail follows the old Chesapeake Beach railway line, which carried vacationers from Washington, D.C. to the seaside resort of Chesapeake Beach from the late 1800’s until the 1930’s.

The plans are to one day have a trail that will run from Chesapeake Beach to Washington, D.C. There are actually other parts of this rightaway converted into trails, starting in Washington where it runs through the Marvin Gaye Park along Watts Creek in Southeast.
There is a small segment in Prince George's County operated by the M-NCPPC, near the Metro stop on Addison Road in Seat Pleasant.

Another half mile stretch, on the only part of the railway in Anne Arundel County, is a nature trail in the Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary along the Patuxent River.

So four local juristictions are already invested in this trail. Much of the rest of the existing rightaway is controlled by the M-NCPCC and the plans are to expand the trail in the coming years.
