"All quiet now" Traditional Cache

This cache is located on the lower slopes of Slieve Meelmore, Mourne Mountains, Co.Down.
Sit in the area of the cache and listen ..... perhaps, at first you will think you hear nothing. However, as your ears become attuned to the quietness you may begin to notice some "sounds of silence" - the low mummuring of the stream, grasses stirring in the breeze, the croak of a Raven - and, in the distance, perhaps a sheep dog barking or the drone of a tractor.
How different this area would have sounded just a few generations ago - the ring of a hammer hitting a plug, the splitting of granite, the shouts of stonemen, the grunts of labourers lifting setts and kribben on to wagons and the clip clop of hooves on stone. Today, only silent traces of these activities remain - the crumbling hut, scars in the granite, old tracks being reclaimed by nature and partially dressed granite blocks that didn't make it down the mountainside to "furnish" the streets of Belfast or the cotton towns of Lancashire. As you hunt for the cache you may come across other reminders of past sounds.
Car parking is available at the Happy Valley car park , Meelmore Lodge Amenity Area ( parking charge, toilets,cafe) and Trassey Track car park. Remember, that although the cache is on the fringe of the Mournes please ensure you are properly prepared for mountain type conditions.
