One of the many wonderful aspects of
Geocaching is that it takes you to places you didn’t know
existed. Here is your opportunity to visit a unique location that
will allow you to meet with fellow Geocachers and relive the bygone
era of steam travel.
Located at Galston in Sydney’s
north-west you will discover a 5” gauge miniature railway run
by the Hornsby Model Engineers Co-operative. On the second Sunday
of every month, the members open their gates and conduct public
running days where you can go for rides on these great little model
trains along a 1km track that winds through a beautiful bushland
setting.
The Hornsby Model Engineers Co-operative is a non-profit
organisation and all their income goes to maintaining and improving
their facilities.
This event is a “BYO
everything” picnic and everyone is welcome to come along. It
will commence at 9:30am (rides begin at 10:00am) and conclude at
3:30pm. To find us walk over the far bridge that crosses the train
line and go down past the station. If we are lucky, we will have
secured a couple of picnic tables. It’s also probably a good
idea to bring along a folding chair for yourself. Parking is
available on the street.
Those who attend will have the
opportunity to catch up with old mates and make new friends. There
will be lots of chat about all-things Geocaching. There is always
the chance to discover and swap travel bugs and geocoins and to get
answers to those niggling questions you may have. Come for all or
part of the day, it’s up to you. There are a number of local
caches nearby that can be completed before or after your visit.
There’s even one just outside the
gate!
