Back o' Bernagh Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions

This cache is located on the south-east facing slope of Slieve Bernagh, Mourne Mountains, Co.Down.
Slieve Bernagh (739m: the "Gapped Mountain") is undoubtedly one of the jewels of the Mournes. It is usually approached from the Meelmore Lodge Amenity Area (parking charge, toilets, cafe) or the Trassey Track car park - with walkers heading for the Hare's Gap - then up the steps to follow the wall to the mountain's craggy tors. Relatively few walkers continue to contour its southern slopes (from the level of the top of the steps) to do a circum-navigation or head up its "back side". So, here's your opprtunity if you are a keen caching hillwalker. On a sun dappled summer's afternoon or on a snow sprinkled winter's morning you'll probably have the area to yourself. If the visibility is good the views are outstanding - Bernagh's south tor almost seems ready to topple down upon you. It can feel very remote round here - so remember to leave a route card with someone responsible and be properly prepared/equipped for a day in the hills.
Please return the cache container carefully in an upright position - hopefully doing this will keep the log book dry.
