Geocache Description:

Part of the Lexington Park Geotrail.

Officer's Court was the name of a street, ending in a circle. This street was located in what was Center Gardens, originally a military housing area for upper enlisted and lower grade officers.

These apartments were call Garden Apartments or what we usually call townhouses. The houses of Officer Court were lined neatly along the roadway, unlike those of the enlisted. The houses in the rest of the complex were arranged in a u-shape with a open green space in the middle. There was a playground located between every two apartment groups and a laundry facility was available.

In the 1960's this housing was sold to a private company. Later, the Navy purchased part of the property to build new Navy enlisted housing. This housing is called Glen Forest after astronaut John Glen who trained on Patuxent River NAS. The rest of the area became a county park.
