Geocache Description:

On Bald Head Island (ferry or private boat required to get there) in the Maritime forest. Can access cache from either trail head. Can park along the road. Cache us plastic jar with logbook, SWAG, and a special BHI treasure for FTF.

ANN ASTON PICKERING JUNE 2, 1941 – JUNE 24, 2009 Ann Pickering was an ICON on Bald Head Island. She believed in responsible development but was an adamant conservationist. She understood the primary mission of all property owners on Bald Head Island was preservation of the Island. She was an avid supporter of The Bald Head Island Conservancy and served on the Board of Directors. She was President of the Smith Island Land Trust, the preservation arm of the Conservancy. On the North Trail through the Maritime Forest near the site of this Geocache is a wooden bench placed in memory of Ann Pickering. From the area of this bench is a spectacular view of Bald Head Creek, the marsh area on the back of the Island, and the Bald Head Lighthouse. Enjoy and please be mindful of the environment. Thanks, Gene Douglas, President Smith Island Land Trust (and father of onebumknee).
