FANTANELE-BELIS DAM was built in the years 1970-1974 on the Somesul Cald river for generating electricity.
The lake, situated at an altitude of 990m has an area of 9.8 square km and a length of 13 km. On the lake shore was built the resort with the same name, while old Belis village, covered by the waters, was displaced on the surrounding peaks.
The dam made from rocks with cocret mask, is 92 m high and 410 m long. The water is transported through underground pipes, dug into the rock to underground Mariselu hydroelectric plant, where they meet another eight secondary catchments from Somesul rece and Iara valley.
Through an underground channel, carved in rock, water reaches the turbines. Here, the cavity that houses the power plant is as tall as a building with 10 floors. Power plant, built by Ceausescu regime, is housed in an artificial cave, carved in the rock in the heart of the mountains. Because it can withstand even the most brutal aerial bombardment, Marisel plant was declared a strategic objective and public access is prohibited. Gate, which resembles in appearance to a mine entrance, is large enough to allow the entry of a smaller truck, but discreet enough not to attract attention of tourists who go to the resort Marisel.
It is important, at least, for two reasons:
- it produces an enormous amount of clean energy, and secondly for
- the plant was designed and built exclusively by Romanian engineers and workers and there were used only materials and equipment produced in Romania.
The hydropower plant from Marisel is the second largest of the interior rivers of Romania (after that of Lotru) and has an output of 220 megawatts, enough to supply at the same time, 10 mixed metals works, such as the one in Campia Turzii, or may illuminate without problems all the cities in North Transylvania.
The containers for all our caches are made from plastic bottles (PET) found on the trail. Since the design is not completely air/water proof, we might need your help with preserving the cache. As such, the container itself is swappable, so if you have a knife/scissors with you and you find a plastic bottle (PET) along your route, feel free to replace the container if needed, and take the old one with you to be properly disposed.
All our caches include some trash bags for the traveler in need. Feel free to take a trash bag without swapping and fulfil its destiny by removing some of the litter found on the trail. If the cache is all out of trash bags and you happen to have some with you, please replenish the cache.
IMPORTANT: Web logs must be reflected in the actual log book (physical log). Those that are not will be deleted.

BARAJUL FANTANELE-BELIS a fost construit in anii 1970-1974 pe cursul raului Somesul Cald pentru generarea de energie electrica.
Lacul, situat la o altitudine de 990 m, are o suprafata de 9,8 km^2 si o lungime de 13km. Pe malul lacului s-a construit statiunea turistica cu acelasi nume, in timp ce comuna Belis acoperita de apele lacului a fost stramutata pe culmile din jur.
Barajul este de tip anrocament cu masca de beton, inalt de 92 m si lung de 410 m. Apa este transportata prin conducte subterane sapate in stanca pana la hidrocentrala subterana Mariselu, unde se intalnesc aductiuni de la inca 8 captari secundare din bazinul Somesul Rece si Iara.
Printr-un canal subteran, scobit în stânca, apa ajunge la turbine. Aici, cavitatea care adaposteste centrala electrica este la fel de înalta ca un bloc cu 10 etaje. Centrala electrica, ctitorita de regimul Ceausescu, este adapostita într-o pestera artificiala, scobita în inima de stânca a muntilor. Pentru ca poate sa reziste chiar si celui mai crunt bombardament aerian, centrala de la Marisel a fost declarata obiectiv strategic, iar accesul publicului este interzis. Poarta, care seamana ca aspect cu intrarea într-o mina, este suficient de mare pentru a permite intrarea unui camion mai mic, dar suficient de discreta pentru a nu atrage atentia turistilor care merg catre statiunea Marisel.
Este importanta din cel putin doua puncte de vedere:
- produce o cantitate imensa de energie nepoluanta iar în al doilea rând pentru ca
- centrala a fost amenajata exclusiv cu ingineri si muncitori români si doar cu materiale si utilaje produse în România.
Hidrocentrala de la Marisel este cea de-a doua ca marime de pe râurile de interior din România (dupa cea de la Lotru) si are o putere de 220 de megawati, suficienta pentru a aproviziona, în acelasi timp, 10 combinate siderurgice, precum cel de la Câmpia Turzii sau ar putea ilumina fara probleme toate orasele din Transilvania de Nord.
Cutiile tuturor cache-urilor noastre sunt făcute din sticle de plastic (PET) găsite pe traseu. Deoarece designul nu este complet rezistent la oxidare/apă, putem avem nevoie de ajutorul tău pentru păstrarea cache-ului intact cât mai mult timp. În consecință, cutia/recipientul în sine poate fi schimbat, așa că dacă ai un cuțit/foarfece cu tine și găsești o sticlă de plastic (PET) de-a lungul traseului, nu ezita să înlocuiești cutia/recipientul dacă este necesar, și să îl iei pe cel vechi cu tine pentru a fi îndepărtat în mod corespunzător.
Toate cache-urile noastre includ niște saci de gunoi pentru cine are nevoie. Nu ezita să iei o pungă de gunoi fără să o înlocuiești și îndeplinește-i destinul eliminând o parte din gunoiul găsit pe traseu. Dacă cache-ul rămâne fară saci de gunoi și se întâmplă să ai câțiva cu tine, te rugăm să completezi /adaugi saci de gunoi cache-ului.
IMPORTANT: Log-urile web trebuie să fie reflectate în carnețelul cache-ului (log-ul fizic). Cele care nu sunt vor fi șterse.
