I Ervik på Stadlandet.
Befolkninga i Ervik har opp gjennom tidene livnært seg på gardsbruk og fiskeri. Under andre verdskrig var mange tyske soldatar og russiske krigsfangar stasjonert i Ervik for å bygge bunkersar og kanonstillingar. Den flotte hamna i Ervik ble også bygt i løpet av krigsåra.
Ervik kapell vart bygt i 1970 som eit minnekapell etter forliset til hurtigruteskipet D/S «Sanct Svithun» i september 1943. Arkitektar: Arnstein Arneberg og Olav Platou. Altartavle frå 1979 av Kalla Skrøvseth. Ei av to kyrkjeklokker er skipsklokka frå «Sanct Svithun», og ankeret er plassert utanfor kyrkja. I kyrkjegangen er det foto og andre minne etter forliset.
I klokketårnet ved minnekapellet har ein plassert krossen som stod på ei massegrav for 21 russiske krigsfangar som miste livet i ein straffeleir i Ervik i krigsåra. I alt 35 russarar skal ha mist livet etter tortur og mishandling i denne leiren. Ervik kapell er bygd like ved den gamle gravstaden i Ervik som vart vigd kring 1550.
I gamle dagar var det svært tungvint for Selje-presten å reise til ytste bygdene på Stadlandet. Dette var opphavet til Ervikpreika, der presten heldt jordfesting – gravferdsrituale - for alle som hadde døydd sidan sist han vitja ytre Stadlandet. Tradisjonen med ei årleg Ervik-preike vert framleis halden ved lag, men no berre som vanleg gudsteneste utan at nokon vert jordfesta.

Ervik is a small village close to West Cape. The people here subsist of farming and fishing. During the 2. World War many German soldiers and Russian Prisoners of War was stationed at Ervik, building bunkers and gun sites. The fine harbor at Ervik was also built during the war.
The chapel of Ervik was buildt in 1970 as a memorial chapel, after the shipwreck of D/S Sanct Svithun in September 1943. Architects: Arnstein Arneberg and Olav Platou. Altarpiece (1979) by Kalla Skrøvseth. One of the bells come from the ship that sank, and the anchor is placed outside the chapel. In the hall, there are photos and other memoribilias from the ship. The cross that stood on a massgrave of 21 russian prisoners of the 2nd World War, is now placed in the clock tower by the chapel. A total of 35 russians died after torture and abuse in the prison camp in Ervik. The chapel is buildt right next to the old burial site, consecrated ca 1550.
In earlier times it was difficult for the priest to travel to all the small, outer villages, so he went to Ervik once a year and held a funeral ritual for all the people who had died the last 12 months. This is still the tradition of Ervik, only now the funeral ritual is replaced with a an ordinary worship/mass.
