Coates, MN, a city located in Dakota
County
The city of Coates was named after a great philosopher and early
sports actvist: James T Coates. The land mass for Coates is a
whopping 1.4 square miles which in 2000 had a population of 163 if
you include outlying homesteads.
Other than being just another quiet farming community, Coates is
known for it's polling scandal a few years back. As mentioned
above, the population of Coates was 163... until 2002 that is, when
the population grew by 93 residents to 256. A local establishment
owner allegedly tried to fix the city election when the City of
Coates wanted to zone him out of business. The allegation was that
he illegally registered 93 or so of his "employees" who did not
reside in Coates. He was later found Not Guilty but his
establishment has been closed ever since.
This cache replaces the previous cache that was
at this location which is now permanently embedded inside the
repaired block wall. This is a new hide, in a new container, in a
new hidey hole. Therefore, I've created a whole new cache. PLEASE
do not try to retrieve the old cache. You will likely need a
jackhammer and I doubt you would get away with such
shenanigans.
It is important that you place the container back properly or it
could become overly exposed and shorten its lifespan.
