Geocache Description:

Fatada, in schimb, are o prispa specifica arhitecturii taranesti, avand in centrul sau un foisor cu balustrada sculptata in lemn.

[EN]: The Hagi Prodan House, located on no.2 Democratiei Street, is one of the symbols of Ploiesti and one of the few buildings that has lasted since the 18th century.

The house was built in 1785 for the great boiler-maker Hagi Ioan Prodan (there also exists the possibility that he bought the house) and, at that time, was one of the most imposing houses in Ploiesti.

For Walachia, the XVIII century meant Phanariot rule and an overwhelming Turkish influence in the daily life which can be seen in the architectural plans of the house.

The ground floor consists of 4 rooms (the living room, the masters’ sleeping room, that of the children and the winter kitchen) along with a room which was built in such a manner that overlooked the present I. A. Bassarabescu, having windows on every side. There also exist a door and a stairway that make the connection with the winter kitchen and the garden.

However, the front side has a porch specific to the rural architecture, and in the middle, a balcony with the balustrade sculpted in wood. Underneath the balcony is the entrance to the cellar, on the East side of the building you can reach the ground level, and on the other you can go to the basement, where, two centuries ago lived gipsy slaves and nowadays is one of the popular pubs in town.
