Geocache Description:

One of a series of caches based around our old haunts.

The Ex-Shanklin 'Girls' (The Nickster (N), and Mum (H) of SPO and Mum), having been friends for 40 years (50 years in spring 2021!), placed some caches to celebrate.

The nearby school was originally known as Black Pan (after the farm there), and opened in 1971 as a middle school for children aged 9-13. We were there when it was called Lake Middle School (hence the cache name) from 1975-1979.

In July 2011 it became part of the new 2-tier school structure as Broadlea Primary School.

If you also went there, please tell us in your logs, and we'd love to see any photos of you (the dafter the better!) from that period, on the cache gallery.

According to Lake Parish Council, 'Lake is named after the Old English 'Lacu', referring to the creek that ran along what is now Scotchells Brook...', which is a short walk from the cache.

Accessible from public footpath, no need to enter any school grounds.

Parking is available at Berry Hill (see additional waypoint), but it's a quiet residential area so please be considerate.

In order to claim the Nostalgia - Bonus cache (GC3HT2J) you need to find all 12 of the other Nostalgia caches and make a note of the letters and numbers from their log books and/or cache containers.

If completing this series as a circular walk, we suggest the following caches next:

Clockwise; GC301TV Nostalgia - Sandown High.  If you fancy some plane spotting, take a detour NW (downhill, over Scotchells Brook) then NE along footpaths from this cache takes you to the SE edge of the IOW airport ‘runway’.  From there, head E along footpaths to cross the golf course.  Otherwise, the shorter (but less interesting) route is to head SE then E (towards the parking co-ordinates), past the cemetery and playground in Manor Road, then along Lea Road and public footpath SS27 to Lake Green Road.

Anti-clockwise; GC3H22F Nostalgia - Temperatures Go SE then S, then turn W along the main road and use the pelican crossing.

Congratulations to Bouton (aka Lavender LatLongers) on the FTF.
