Geocache Description:

Welcome to Port Resolution! Making it here is the real challenge. Cache is extremely remote and one of the most difficult in the world to access. It has gone missing into the jungle a couple of times. Cache maintained by Werry and Stanley..ask at the Yacht Club. There are no stores here, consider bringing some caching supplies. Always bring a pencil to sign log and re-hide well. Share some photos of yourself and your surroundings. Cache maintained in September 2023.

Port Resolution is reportedly the best anchorage for blue water cruisers on the island of Tanna. This destination is currently easier to access by boat than by 4 x 4 truck, but that does not deter intrepid tourists from coming to this location to enjoy its remote beaches, snorkeling, and bungalows. Once you get to the coordinates, the find is pretty easy as long as it has not been taken by locals. Getting to Port Resolution is the challenge. We anchored here for a week in July 2011 and enjoyed the lovely beaches, snorkeling, visits to local villages, and to Mt. Yasura, a very active volcano. Yes, you can sometimes hear the volcano erupting from this anchorage, see the smoke, occasional ash falling on the boat, and volcanic red orange glow on the clouds at night. There is an earth cache at Mt. Yasura (GC1HW2K), but no place for travel bugs to spend the night. This wouldn’t be a place you would want to take your eyes away from the Volcano to be searching for a geocache! The Port Resolution Yacht Club, is THE place for the few yachties and tourists to hang out while here. It is very rustic as are the surrounding villages. Many of the people who live here have never ventured beyond this village. Electricity is scant and created by a few generators. A few people have cell phones. The villagers are friendly, shy, but welcoming. There is a community co-operative store set up by a Peace Crop Volunteer a few years ago where visitors can pickup some local produce and hand crafts, and order fresh baked bread. Please do not place trinkets in the Cache. Bring your Vatu as there is no place to get local currency. If you are coming this way, you may want to bring some items to gift or to trade with the locals. They can use batteries of all sizes, AA, AAA, D cell, fishing lures, gasoline for generators, solar powered lights, balloons, hard candy for children, hackysacks, frisbees, bodywash (soap), shoe glue, clothing (t-shirts, skirts, children’s clothes), bandaids, antibotic powders/ointments, reading glasses, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and lock tight containers (think is reason previous containers have gone missing), and replacement caching supplies. You can also visit the local school which can always use school supplies (chalk, pencils, exercise books, reading books in English, grades 1-9). There isn’t a school library. As former teachers, we enjoyed giving some geography and science lessons while we were in the village. Science books for kids would be wonderful as the people in rural villages still rely on their imaginations and magic to explain their world. Werry is the yacht club manager and will connect you with Stanley. Stanley and Werry are most helpful in maintaining this Cache. Stanley is the tour and transportation organizer who lives in the local village and can usually be found close to the yacht club or near the village. Stanley has agreed to be the local caretaker and custodian of this cache which is hidden nearby. Please say hello to him from us, the 2 Sail R’s, RozNRuss
