The End of the Line Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

rattyinstirling: As several people have identified this is no longer a community cafe and the garden is out of bounds. Great that it got over 1000 visits but time to archive it I think.

Geocache Description:

The cache is a small plastic box with room for small objects. It is placed in St Leonards at the end of the disused Edinburgh and Dalkeith Railway.

The Goods Shed today

The line was opened in 1826 to bring coal to Auld Reekie and was horse drawn initially but steam hauled later. It is now an important cycleway used by commuters and leisure cyclists alike. St Leonards was the terminus in the city and although it closed to passengers in 1847 it continued as an important goods depot until 1964 when it was finally decommissioned.

The building is now home to a thriving community enterprise that includes a conference venue, food production unit and a cafe. Why not pop in for a coffee after logging your visit.

The cache is placed with the support of the site owner but stealth may be required so as not to draw attention to its location. This small garden is for community use so you are OK to enter.
There is another cache which celebrates The Innocent Railway GCW7HX which is placed at the Duddingstone Loch end of the cycleway.

This cache meets the Urban Placement Guidelines.
