Geocache Description:

On the common lies this cache

The Borough of Kenfig has its roots firmly set in history from it castle to the North raided by Vikings and the buried city lying beneath its sands and now an internationally recognised Nature Reserve
Sker beach is one of the truly unspoilt sand beaches in Wales having no road access it remains untouched from developing hands. There has been industry here though, from a sand and gravel works in front of "Sands of Time 1" to the long "Haul Road" tracking parallel to the beach used during the late 60s and early 70s to supply enormous boulders to build the new Steel Works Harbour in Port Talbot. The base of the road still remains but is slowly being reclaimed by nature.
From the nearby seat you get a panoramic view of the Bristol coast line from Porthcawl on the left to the Steel foundries of Port Talbot then on to Swansea and the beautiful Gower.

Depending on the position of the tide from the bench you can see the " Mussel Bed" a large rock formation uncovered at low water and as the name suggests covered in Mussels along with Star fish, various large crab and the occasional large conger eel hiding in the crevices.

The cache was placed with the kind permission of the Nature Reserve Warden - Mr David Carrington.
