This National Trust Trail will take you on a fact finding mission around our field at Horden. It's just one of the caches we have placed along the part of the Durham Coast that we care for, so if you enjoy this one please check out the others.
The National Trust is a charity that protects special places in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, for ever, for everyone.
The Durham Coast has recovered from its industrial past to become one of the finest stretches of coastline in the country. The Magnesian Limestone that underlies the area gives rise to spectacular displays of rare wild-flowers in the summer while the steep sided denes that cut through the cliff are sheltered havens for all sorts of wildlife.
Cotsford field at Horden is a spectacular wild-flower meadow in summer. It may look natural, but we've given it a helping hand become so species rich by adding a wild-flower seed mix. It's cut once a year to stop scrub species invading.
Find out more about the wildlife and history of the area by reading the interpretation panels and answering the questions below.
