Join fellow deep woods cachers
for a bog-side breakfast blast deep in Boxford State Forest,
from 9-10 AM on Saturday, September 24, 2011! RAIN or
SHINE!
It took 25 years to hold Woodstock II (1994)
after the original Woodstock in 1969, but you won't have to wait
that long after last year's
Bushstock 2010 for the next one: Bushstock 2011:
Breakfast by the Bog is just around the
corner in late September! Make your plans now to join all the
fun!
Like last
year,
there will be plenty of coffee, OJ, bagels and cream
cheese packed in* for a perfect bog-side geo-start to
your Saturday morning. It's a well-known fact
that deep woods cachers are a fun-loving bunch, so expect to have a
great time as you bang down coffee and bagels while listening to
riveting tales of harrowing caching adventures, great (or lame)
excuses for DNFs, plans for next conquests, new caches, and more!
Plus, there'll be plenty of TBs to trade, cool raffle stuff to win,
and best of all, great comraderie with geo-friends old and
new! This is a great chance
to connect faces with all the geo-names you've seen in the logs.
And if you're not convinced yet: don't pass up this
once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get your own
specially-designed, highly-coveted, collectors-quality
Bushstock 2011 pin, available only on site for those
who make the trek out there!
[*Logistics and
request: I'm hoping for a few volunteer sherpas to help pack stuff
in and out. If you have a decent-sized backpack and want to join in
the sherpa fun (it is, actually!), please email me or post a note
in your log entry below. We'll be leaving from trailhead P3
at 8:15 AM sharp.]
To maximize
on-site people density (and corresponding fun), Bushstock is
targeting only one hour, 9-10 AM (although I note that many people
stayed until after 11 last year!). We'll have a raffle at 9:45
AM---I’ll supply some swag but other donations are
welcome!
The Bushstock
site is about 0.8 miles from the nearest trailhead (P4), so plan on
30-45 minutes to hike there from your car (longer if you come in
from a more distant trailhead; see options below). No matter
what trailhead you choose, you'll be on good trails almost all the
way in, except for an easy 0.2 mile bushwhack at the end. Last year
we had plenty of first-time bushwhackers, so no one should be
concerned about this. Important: It is
not necessary to wade through any bogs to
get there, even though certain attendees last year chose to do
so! Finally, this late in
September the bug density should be low to non-existent, but you
may want to bring some bug dope just in case.
Several
trailheads and parking options are listed in the table below. The
most direct routes in are from P3 and P4, but you can easily reach
the site from P1 and P2 with slightly longer hikes as well. P5 and
P6 are also options for the more adventuresome, if you want a nice
trek through the Wunnegan Conservation Area and don’t mind
crossing a sizable, but easily crossed, beaver dam at the beautiful
upper end of Crooked Pond. Allow a little extra time if you come in
from these latter trailheads. Note that parking is limited at most
trail heads, so I recommend having a couple options in mind in case
you get to your desired trailhead and it's full. I also recommend
studying the Boxford State
Forest Trail Map and GoogleEarth satellite
imagery (available via this cache page) to get an idea where
swamps are in relation to your chosen trailhead---misjudging your
route could put you on the wrong side of a swamp with a long way to
go around to correct your error!
See you at Bushstock
2011!
